Back in 1999 Grant and Georgie joined Animal Liberation.

Georgie and Grant volunteered on as many campaigns as they could with Mark Pearson, (now The Honourable Mark Pearson , head of the Animal Justice Party).

Everything from exposing the truth behind battery chicken farming, banning duck shooting and preserving fragile wetlands, banning sow stalls and exposing the horrors that go on behind our live export trade. They campaigned to free Arna the circus elephant.

Georgie read the book Animal Liberation by Peter Singer and it literally changed her life. Sadly the truths exposed in his book in 1975 are the same truths facing animals today.

“Thank you Peter Singer. You are the main reason we started Addiction Food.”

“We worked together in the original Animal Liberation Shop in King St Newtown called Oink.

Back in the day Grant and I would volunteer every weekend doing market stalls and fundraising for Animal Liberation at Bondi Beach and Paddington.

We would have petitions for people to sign, a small donation jar, stickers to give away, a few books to sell and a replica battery chicken cage with very lifelike looking chickens inside showing how atrocious the conditions were as the life of a battery chicken and the hell they go through in their miserable life.

Back then Animal Liberation didn’t have many volunteers in the Eastern Suburbs, so for the markets we were on our own.

However when it came to the Animal Liberation Volunteers, thankfully we were in good company.

We had the pleasure of meeting and working with so many influential people whom are still fighting for animal rights today.

Our now dear friend Lynda Stoner CEO today of Animal Liberation.

We campaigned together on many different causes especially addressing councils to ban the use of cage eggs.”

“Together we put up with unbelievable abuse in these council meetings from unconscious souls who have no idea nor care for the chickens suffering in misery today.

I decided to develop as many vegan recipes as possible and donate them to a vegan cookbook. In fact one of our favourite Fig Apple and Walnut Slice recipes is in this book.

Lynda published Now Vegan in 2008 and I am proud to be credited with 23 recipes as a contributor, alongside the beautiful Christine Townsend, Founder of Animal Liberation, as well as Bede from A Poultry Place.

This was the beginning of Addiction Food and developing new recipes that we could eventually turn into a business.

In 2013 Addiction Food sponsored Mardi Gras for Animal Liberation. That particular campaign was banning the use of Sow Stalls. We had a great turnout and though a somber cause our parade float attracted world wide media and education.
